Hydrogen is considered to have a key role in the future energy transition. Confronting the global increase of energy demand, high oil price uncertainties, limitation of fossil fuels and environmental issues, hydrogen as an alternative energy carrier has attracted a worldwide interest.

Our solution:

Despite the high investment rates, realisation of a hydrogen economy remains difficult due to the costs and safety issues concerning hydrogen storage and infrastructure.

Sunergy is developing an innovative green hydrogen production method, that

-          is safe and cheap. An on-demand production method avoids hydrogen storage, and therefore the related security and costs issues

-          demands no electricity/source of energy

-          is green: environmentally friendly reactants, no toxic materials and no green-house gas emissions

-          promotes a circular economy, using industrial waste materials

Our solution is based on the corrosion of metallic materials, with an effective gravimetric hydrogen conversion capacity of 10-12% (wt% H2/metal) producing an energy of over 3kWh/kg metal.

Our green hydrogen can be used for instance to feed a fuel cell to produce electricity and heat in local micro-grids or to power vehicles, or it can be used to reduce the carbon print in industrial applications, such as production of ammonia.
